Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

DDP is a therapeutic approach which is able to help children and families who are dealing with trauma, loss and other dysregulating experiences. It involves the therapist working with the parents or carers to develop their skills in using Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy (PACE) and using these within a safe environment to enable the child to regulate feelings of fear, shame, anger or sadness. The child is also supported to make sense of their life and understand their parents/carers' perspective toward them alongside helping parents/carers to understand their child's feelings, experiences and any misconceptions around parents/carers intentions.

We use DDP approaches to work with the parents/carers and the wider professional network to ensure that everyone is able to understand the child's intentions and behaviours and work together to provide the best support to enable the child to grow in understanding of themselves and the adults supporting them. Through the work the child and their caregivers are supported in developing more secure attachments and a stronger foundation for future relationships throughout life.
